Naloxone is a safe, easy-to-use medication that can quickly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and save lives. It’s especially important to have it available in public spaces so that trained responders, bystanders, or anyone who recognizes the signs of an overdose can act before emergency help arrives.
Where to get it
The village has installed a naloxone distribution point in a public, accessible location in the village office vestibule. This is similar to Public Access Narcan (PAN) boxes used in other communities — just like fire extinguishers or AEDs, they provide immediate access in an emergency
How to use it
- Recognize the signs: Unresponsiveness, slow or shallow breathing, blue lips or fingernails.
- Act quickly: Naloxone can be given by trained individuals or, in some cases, by untrained bystanders following local guidance.
- Call 911 after administering naloxone — it is not a substitute for emergency medical help.
